Building works at Kilcoskan NS

                                                                                                                         26th June 2014
Dear Parents,

I am pleased to inform you that from next week, builders are scheduled to be onsite to start upgrading our school grounds. It is anticipated that once these “site works” get underway, the construction of our new school extension will begin towards the end of July / August. As previously communicated, this will involve the construction of new permanent classrooms and an activity room for all our class groups, scheduled to be ready to move into in January 2015.

The following is an overview of the key points / plan:
The attractive and original front of our school building will remain untouched. A new staff parking area, a pupil set-down area, a new play ground / yard and foul water treatment system will be installed.
Our infant classroom will remain the same and will be safe and ready for use from September 2014.
A new classroom for 1st & 2nd class to be made from combining our 2 original classrooms (in the original school building) will be ready for September 2014.
Many trees will have to be removed but next year we will start re-planting and “re-greening” our school grounds.
The new permanent classes / facilities for all other pupils and class groups will be constructed and joined up with the main school building between the summer and Christmas.
All class facilities (for 3rd – 6th class and our 2 special classes) from September to Christmas will be in prefabs located near the football pitch to allow for the extension to be built at the back of the school.
The new fully integrated school building should be ready for occupation from return to school after Christmas.
The highest standards required by law for health and safety of all involved with our school from the summer to Christmas will be met.  The builders have given assurances that noise levels during the school day will also be kept to a minimum.

In the long term, this is all really great news for Kilcoskan NS. I do of course realise that things might be less than ideal for term 1, with some more classes than usual being in prefabs / building works going on etc. but I hope you’ll agree that it will all be well worth it once we get to use our exciting new facilities.  If you have any questions or concerns about anything to do with our school extension works please feel free to contact me or the school’ s Board of Management at the above details.

Yours sincerely,
