The Great Kilcoskan Sports Day 2012

Well done to all of our pupils who took part in the Great Kilcoskan Sports Day 2012 today. It took ages for our pitch to dry out so the sports day was late, but it was still great!

We had a packed schedule including sprints, hurdle relays, the marathon, javelin, shot putt / discus, egg and spoon races, sack races, three legged races, wheelbarrow races and even of course the parents race!

Thanks to everyone for their help on the day and well done to all the boys and girls for their hard work, earning everyone a newly minted Kilcoskan NS medal!  Thanks also to the Parents Association Mini Marathon runners who held their mini marathon blisters raffle today and presented the school with a super-sized sponsorship cheque for all of their efforts! London Olympics here we come!!!

Summer Trips and Tours

Despite the wet weather all of our pupils have headed off on their summer tours over the last 3 weeks. Infants up to 1st class headed to the zoo, 2nd class to 4th class headed to Dublinia and saw Men in Black 3D.

The big “Adventure Tour” was saved for our most senior pupils 5th and 6th class, who headed on an overnight trip to Inis Mór, the biggest of the Aran Islands!
The boys and girls met before 8am at the Coolquay Lodge and got the bus all the way to Rosaveel in Galway (with a short stop in KFC outside Galway on the way!) Then we took the Aran Ferry over the waves to dock on Inis Mór.  We went straight up to the hostel to book into our rooms and then had a few games of Swing Ball.  Then we took a bus tour of the island, stopping off for a (slightly wet!) hike up to the ancient cliff top fort of Dún Aonghas, where Cyril our tour guide told us lots of interesting facts about the island. We had our dinner in the American Bar and settled down to playing some cards for the rest of the evening.

Next morning we had a tasty of breakfast of sausages and after a little more Swing Ball we headed to the beach for some footy and paddling. Then it was back onto the boat for a pretty wavy crossing, followed by a trip to McDonald’s and the journey home.  It was a great trip and thanks to all who helped with organizing it!

Hurling Blitz with St.Joseph's CBS Primary School

Well done to the boys and girls in our hurling squad who have been practicing their skills for 6 months now! As a reward for all the training we held a blitz day in St. Margaret’s today where we were joined by the boys from St. Joseph’s CBS Primary School in Fairview. Everybody got to play 5 matches, there were some great skills on display and lots of fun was had! Thanks to St. Margaret’s Club for giving us the use of their pitches and to the Joey’s men for coming out to our neck of the woods! We’re looking forward to the away leg next year and maybe even a few challenge matches in between now and then!

Kilcoskan NS win the Joe Crowe Cup!!!

Victory for Kilcoskan!!
It was the 13th of June 2012. The venue was Mary Queen of Ireland N.S, Rivermeade. It was all set for a great afternoon of football.
In the Fingal league all three teams did well. Kilcoskan got to the final and only lost by a point. St Margarets got to the semi final and Rivermeade came third in their group.
The first game was Kilcoskan vs Mary Queen of Ireland. Kilcoskan got off to a great start with goals from Judy Bobbett and points from Sam Fraughen. With Nicholas Bobbett playing great from full back Rivermeade were really on the rack. In truth this game wasn’t a contest unfortunately. The next game was St Margarets vs  Rivermeade. There was nothing between them.  St. Margarets got the all important goal.  It was cruel on Rivermeade.
The next game was St Margarets vs Kilcoskan. The first half started with points from Kilcoskan. Just before half time Kilcoskan got a goal from a 45. This meant that Kilcoskan went in at the break 1-2 to 0-0 up.
The second half started with great teamwork from Kilcoskan. There were a few great moves involving Nicholas Bobbett and Sam Fraughen resulting in Judy Bobbett goals! Heading into the last 5 minutes Kilcoskan were well ahead and the fans were unreal chanting “K.N.S. are the best”! The game finished with Kilcoskan well ahead of St Margarets. The final whistle resulted in wild celebrations from Kilcoskan fans and players alike!
All that was left to do was lift the cup! On their last ever game for Kilcoskan, Judy Bobbett, Sam Fraughen, Nicholas Bobbett and Dylan Cassidy went up to lift the Joe Crowe Cup!
Proud coaches Trish Finnegan and Terri Shanahan watched on as their team celebrated!
Kilcoskan Squad: 1. Jack Murphy 2. Karl Cassidy 3. Nicholas Bobbett 4. Craig Fitzachary 5. Sam Fraughen 6. Dylan Cassidy 7.Connor Shanahan 8. Ciaran Macmanus 9. Judy Bobbett Subs: Alex Stynes, Shauna Stynes, Jack Kelly, Jordan O’Neill, Fergus Bobbett, Niall Feekery, Bart Osuch, Justas Bulvydas, Bradley Egan, Sam Hemeryck, Adam O’Reilly, Ryan Milling

The Great Kilcoskan Summer Fair 2012

The sun was shining, the sky was blue and on a sunny summer Sunday what else would you want to do…but come on down to the Great Kilcoskan Summer Fair 2012!  This year’s event was bigger and better than ever with a bouncy castle and slide, sumo suits, the “How many balloons in Trish’s car?” raffle, the new Parents Association Hundred Square Raffle and of course bunting, burgers and bargains galore!  Some of the teachers even got a soaking!

Well done and thanks to everybody for supporting the fair.  A special well done to a very generous pupil in 4th class who donated all of the earnings from her stall, selling vegetables, flowers and beautiful knitted hats she had made with help from her granny, to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin.

Well done and a big thanks to the six “Super-Mams” who ran the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin this bank holiday weekend in aid of the Kilcoskan NS Parents Association.  New personal best times were set by each of the ladies and there wasn’t a blister to be seen between them!

Thanks also to all who sponsored the ladies on behalf of the P.A. and best of luck to everyone in the upcoming sponsorship raffle!
