Look up Look up...The Great Kilcoskan Balloon Race is on the way!

In an effort to raise funds to buy educational resources for Kilcoskan National School, we are pleased to announce the arrival of The Great Kilcoskan Balloon Race 2010!
  • What is The Balloon Race all about?
The balloon race will begin on November 5th 2010, when we will release as many biodegradable helium filled balloons as possible from the grounds of our school. Each balloon will be tagged with our school address and an invitation to post the tag back to our school if found.  Each tag will also have a number, which will correspond to the name of the person who bought it.  The excitement lies in the fact that in other balloon races other schools have held like this, balloon tags have been posted back from as far away as Germany, France, Greece and even Tunisia!
  • How will we know who are the race winners?
As the tags get posted back to our school from where the balloons landed, we will have a map in the reception showing who is in the lead in our balloon race.  After ~6 weeks of flight, the balloon tag which comes back from the furthest away will be declared the winner of the Great Kilcoskan Balloon Race!  There will be super prizes for the furthest balloons returned, including an i-Pod Touch, a weekend away voucher, a meal for 2, rounds of golf and lots more. Any child who succeeds in selling even 1 balloon will also enter the children’s raffle for more exciting prizes!
  • So, what are we asking you to do?
Simple!  When your child brings home their balloon race card next week, please buy and sell as many balloons as you can!!! Each balloon, which will grant entry into the race and all raffles, will cost €5.  There will also be a space on the selling card to write a wish for your balloon, which we hope will come true!  Cards will be sent home with your child on Monday 18th October and children will have 2 weeks to sell as many balloons as possible.  Money and cards will be collected in the first week back after midterm break and all balloons sold will be launched on 5th November.
Donations of appropriate raffle prizes for the race will be gratefully received. Many thanks to those who have already helped in planning for the race.
Good luck and enjoy your balloon flight!
